Welcome to Todd County’s City and Township page.
Todd County is made up of twelve cities and twenty-eight townships. The eleven cities have populations under 3000. Each city has a clerk or Administrator to manage city business under the direction of the City Council.
A Township is the most basic form of Government:
Members consist of a Treasurer, Clerk, and three Supervisors.
The Treasurer maintains the Income and Expense records.
The Clerk records the meeting minutes and hearings, and legal records with the county. The Clerk is the Head Judge at elections.
One Supervisor is voted to the position of Township Board Chairman. The Chairman has the responsibility to maintain an orderly meeting.
Township Board members are elected officials. The election is held the 2nd Tuesday in March. On the years ending with an even number the Clerks position is elected. On the years ending with an odd number the Treasurer is elected, these are two year terms. Supervisors are elected one each year for three year terms.
The Township Board Supervisors represent the residents and property owners in their township. They make decisions based on the wishes of the residents and in the best interest of the Township according to rules defined in State Statute.
The Annual Township meeting is usually shortly before or after the Township Election. At this meeting there is discussion regarding Township budgets, roads and bridges, any projects the voters identify to discuss, and the annual levy. (Levy dollars are the money distributed back to the Townships from the County collected from Real Estate taxes.) At the annual township meeting voters have the opportunity to make recommendations to the Board members. Decisions made at this meeting will set the guidelines for spending that year.
Information about each city and township can be found on the respective page links below.
You will find contact information, meeting minutes, and much more by visiting their pages.

Burnhamville Township is a very diverse township located in the southern portion of Todd County. It encompasses land from State 287 on the west to the Morrison Line Rd on the east; from 150th St on the south to 210th St on the north. As you travel through the township you may see rolling hills, small farms with fields of corn and soybeans, homes nestled in deciduous tree stands, wetlands or one of the many lakes in the township surrounded by lake homes.
Although Burnhamville has numerous small and medium sized dairy, beef or hog farms, it also contains several large turkey producing farms. In fact, Burnhamville leads the other townships in the total number of animal units.
Burnhamville township residents enjoy water activities on the many lakes in the township. Although many of the lakes are small they are usually quite deep and provide excellent fishing. Over the years many people have retired and changed their cabins into full time homes.
BURNHAMVILLE TOWNSHIP: 1870, named after David Burnham who fought in the Civil War and moved from his native Maine to settle in Todd County.

GERMANIA:organized in 1880. John Paul Steinbach suggested using the name of the ship that carried his parents across the Atlantic.
Historic Germania Town Hall– Five miles north of Clarissa on County Road 11 The Germania Town Hall was built in 1917 when a group of young farmers who had organized a coronet band raised enough money to build a one-story dance hall. An architect from Clarissa designed and oversaw construction of the building that was built on land owned by the band’s tuba player, Sigvard Bjerken. Many dances and other social events were held there. In 1996, the Germania Town Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Sites. The Germania Town Hall is still used for occasional dances, parties and even as a large family’s hunting headquarters.
Present Germania Town Hall
This location was the Maple Leaf School, District 69 and is located 6.5 miles east of Bertha on County 24. The school closed in 1969 and the land and building were acquired by Germania Township in 1970. The building was built in 1941 when the original school building was destroyed by fire. Recent improvements have made the building handicapped accessible
