The University of Minnesota Extension Service in Todd County is conducting a Dairy Day Workshop, December 7, at the Hub Supper Club near Burtrum. Registration begins at 10:00 AM, includes a noon buffet lunch, and will conclude around 3:00 PM. Jim Salfer and Noah Litherland, University of Minnesota Dairy Extension Educators, and Randy Pepin, Todd County Extension Educator will be the presenters.
We will have our annual report of the Todd County corn silage test-plot results and other current regional plot results. There will be timely discussions on the new technologies and economics in calf and heifer raising; higher expenses and the dairy industry’s surplus of dairy heifers are changing our model for raising replacements. We will discuss the dramatic impacts of higher input expenses in our business. Dairy Updates at the University of Minnesota is a new topic this year, as well as many of the new technologies in the dairy industry. There will be videos illustrating some of these innovations and discussion on how they may or may not fit in a particular dairy herd. These are all very timely and important topics for managing a dairy in today’s environment.
The program fee to attend any or all of the Todd County Dairy Day is $5 per person, which includes a noon buffet meal; pre-registration requested but not required.
