Youth Alcohol Prevention Project (YAP)

In 2012, Todd County Health and Human Services was awarded a grant from the MN Department of Human Services-Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division to combat underage alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle and Browerville School Districts. It is a comprehensive project that focuses on building a strong community coalition to address substance abuse needs, working with the young people in our schools to be strong leaders and positive role models for their peers, working on local policies and ordinances which will help reduce substance abuse issues, and implementing a Positive Community Norms Media Campaign designed to shift attitudes and misperceptions related to substance abuse. For more information about the Youth Alcohol Prevention project please contact David Determan at david.determan@co.todd.mn.us or 320-732-4271, .

Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP)

We all want to be healthy, but sometimes we need a helping hand. The Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) does this by focusing on increasing physical activity, improving nutrition and reducing the number of people who use tobacco or are exposed to it. SHIP is a collaborative effort between Todd County Health and Human Services, local healthcare providers, grocery stores, local farmers markets and schools working together to make it easier for everyone to be healthier. MN is leading the nation in obesity prevention due in part to efforts of this project. For more information please contact Katherine Mackedanz at katherine.mackedanz@co.todd.mn.us or 320-732-4452.

South Country Health Alliance (SCHA) Community Reinvestment Grant

South Country Health Alliance awarded Todd County Health and Human Services and its community partners with grant funding to build a new community kitchen in Eagle Bend.  The future Eagle Bend Community Kitchen will provide nutritious senior meals to residents in Todd, Morrison, and Wadena Counties, as well as programs such as Bundled Services, Meals on Wheels, and the Senior Fruit & Vegetable Program. The new facility will serve as a long-term hub for senior services and allow the community to expand its nutrition program and provide additional community activities, events and classes. For more information please contact Katherine Mackedanz at Katherine.mackedanz@co.todd.mn.us or 320-732-4452.

National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) Innovative Funding Award

The National Joint Powers Alliance awarded the Morrison-Todd-Wadena Community Health Board with an innovative funding award to implement a mental health prevention initiative across Region Five (Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, and Wadena Counties).  This funding will be used to conduct a regional assessment, promote resiliency factors and identify collaborations across mental health providers, healthcare systems, community based organizations and public health.  For more information please contact Katherine Mackedanz at Katherine.mackedanz@co.todd.mn.us or 320-732-4452.
