Disasters strike anytime and anywhere. It takes many forms – a tornado, flood, winter storm, fire, a hazardous spill or acts of terrorism. To prepare for these disasters, emergency management can be defined as the coordination and integration of all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from or mitigate against threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other manmade disasters.

Mother Nature has reminded us that severe weather is possible even at different times of the year. We need to be vigilant in our preparedness. As individual, families, businesses, schools and institutions we all have to make sure we are prepared for the severe weather.
With the holidays fast approaching and the increased usage of seasonal decorations, it is important to focus on candle fire safety and prevention.  Because the majority of candle fires result from human error and negligence, candle fires and their associated casualties are preventable.
Little things do matter.Minnesota winter is just around the corner and the question is – are you ready for it? Getting ready for winter doesn’t always take a lot of work. Sometimes it’s just a few little things that can make the difference between safety and suffering: having a survival kit in your car, changing the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector, staying well-hydrated during outdoor fun.
